Take a Long Luxury Drive With Your Speedy 35
Ah, the Speedy. The world's first carry all city bag, first introduced in 1932, re-imagined in hundreds of limited edition collections through the years by Louis Vuitton. Worn by countless celebrities, more famous than Beyonce, and coveted by just about anyone with an ounce of fashionista in them, the Louis Vuitton Speedy is the celebrities bag of choice. This site is dedicated to the Speedy 35, the slightly larger, slightly slouchier sibling of the Speedy 30.
Anyone who is about to buy a Speedy inevitably gets herself into the Speedy 30 vs 35 debate. Which one is right for you? While the Speedy 30 is inarguably the most famous, the monogram canvas Speedy 35 bag was actually the original, and is closer to the bag that inspired it—the legendary Keepall, Louis Vuitton's original carry-on bag which appeared in 1924. The smaller (30) version actually appeared in 1965 when Audrey Hepburn asked LV to design her a smaller version to use as a city bag. Since then, of course, two more sizes, the smallest (25) and the largest (40), have appeared.
Sibling Rivalry: Speedy 35 vs Speedy 30
Which one is better? Why, it is strictly a matter of taste. The differences are slight, except one glaring detail—the Speedy 35 bag will slouch slightly, giving it an overall looser, softer appearance. The 25 and 30 both hold their iconic shape, appearing much more like a Boston bag, more "luggage-like", almost like a little house. Women of smaller frames often choose the small versions, but utility is far more of a consideration, since none of them are so big that it would look silly for a petite woman to carry.
How much do you need to carry around? Are you hoping to use it as a travel, overnight bag, or a day bag? This is the key question in the Speedy 35 vs Speedy 30 debate, not the Speedy 35 (which isn't much higher), and not which one is more trendy (Though you'd have no trouble finding someone to have that debate with!).
